Sustainable Design for a Low Carbon Future
Cultivate Sustainable Living Centre, Temple Bar, Dublin

The First Annual Sustainable Design Fortnight will be held at Cultivate Sustainable Living Centre, Ireland's premiere centre for sustainability. Cultivate Centre is located in Temple Bar, the city's cultural quarter and one of the most visited areas of Dublin. The show will highlight a range of international and Irish products and materials that respond to the need for more conscious living in an era of climate change and energy constraints. We are calling for entries of products and processes that use recycled and re-manufactured materials, that require less energy to make, that are more energy efficient to use, or that heighten our awareness about energy use and climate change.
We need to rethink our relationship with energy!
Suitable entries could include a focus on:
• new energy perceptions
• energy feedback devices
• embodied energy of materials over lifespan of objects
• half-made products (user completes)
The exhibition theme: Telling the Story of a Low Energy Day
Imagine you awaken to the sound of your wind-up alarm clock or maybe it's the bird table outside the window. Take a micro-droplet shower, have some locally produced organic food for breakfast, and a cup of tea from your low energy kettle. Get out the folding bike and head in to work... what will it be like there? How is the improved workplace going to kick the energy habit? Will you shop on the way home afterwards? Using what criteria? Will dinner be ready having been put into the slow cooker that morning? Will you pedal up the power on a home gym/generator for a bit of telly or maybe make your own music with your mates? Take us through part of our low carbon, energy aware day by introducing your idea and design for a product which supports the move away from energy addiction.
