IFI WORLD INTERIORS DAY 2008
Press announcement 31 May / 1 June: World Interiors Day 2008
We are all users of buildings. It may be our own home, our working environment, or public
interiors. Whether or not we are aware of it, we are all constantly in contact with interior design.
Specially designed interiors give an extra value to the experience and quality of use of our direct
environment, to our sense of well being, and therefore also to the quality of our lives. Interior
architecture and design make a valuable contribution to the adaptability of buildings over time,
and thereby to the sustainability of the built environment. Good design has an innovative and
inspiring influence on work and communication processes. Interior design is a dynamic process, a continuous interaction between space and user. Fashionable or timeless, it can challenge, repose, entertain, care and guard us.
World Interiors Day is the international event created to provide an occasion to highlight
the merits of the interior professions and their impact on the quality of life. It’s a day to actively
engage professionals, design enthusiasts and the public at large to explore their creativity,
imagination, vision and passion in recognition of the role of interior architecture and design in
our society.
IFI is the Global organization of interior architects and designer’s organizations, representing
over 70 member associations and more than 65.000 interior architects and designers in 45
countries on all the worlds continents. IFI is proud to announce WORLD INTERIORS DAY
2008.
This year’s theme is Identity:
The need for an ‘emotional culture’ in our living environment is rising. In a nice and stimulating
environment people experience more engagement, more pleasure, satisfaction and success.
Work becomes relaxation, effort becomes challenge. People have a need for association,
expression, memories and beauty. They want to identify themselves with their environment.
Well designed interiors give room for self-development and self-fulfillment. Offer freedom and
space for new perspectives, for improvisation, spontaneity, vision and imagination. Interior
architects and designers all over the world are engaged every day in adding value to our
homes, workplaces and living environment. With their understanding of space, comfort,
sustainability, functionality and above all beauty, they shape places that identify us.
World Interiors Day is organized on a local level, by individual interior architects/designers all over the world. Events may include:
Open door programs in which interior architects/designers participate with their Clients in tours
guided by the designer in interiors that are usually not open to the public. City-walks will be
created by combining various of these open door projects.
Open practice invites the public to designer’s offices to see how interior architects/designers
work and the environments in which they design. Or a free student practice day, where students
are invited to work in design studios for a day and learn the practice of interior design.
Exhibitions and art events in cooperation with local museums and institutions exhibitions are
organized that relate to this years theme or interior design in general.
Lectures, talks, discussions by interior architects/designers at schools, public libraries or
other institutions will focus on the importance of our living environment.
Kid’s activities We won’t forget our future generation! We will work together with teachers and
pupils to engage children in a range of creative, practical or fun experiences that raise their
awareness of people and the spaces that surround them.
