Frank Ryan Bursary Gala Dinner
The Institute of Designers in Ireland presented the 2nd annual Frank Ryan Student Travel Bursary to young designer Colm Keller SIDI at a gala dinner in St. Patrick’s Hall, Dublin Castle on Friday the 16th of May.
IDI President Barry Sheehan congratulates Colm Keller SIDI.
Colm is an Industrial Design graduate of the National College of Art and Design and is currently completing an MA in Advanced Programme in Design, HDK, Goteborg University, Sweden.
Colm travelled from Sweden to collect this prestigious award, witnessed by his parents,the IDI President, the design industries creative professionals, and design educators. “I am delighted that Colm Keller has been awarded the Frank Ryan Bursary. Colm has demonstrated an ability to work between the disciplines of Product Design, Furniture and Architecture and has travelled to Scandinavia to further his studies. The Institute of Designers in Ireland is pleased to be able to assist Colm in his quest to gain knowledge overseas, a journey that will ultimately lead to a stronger and more vibrant Institute as well as being of benefit to the consumers and users of design in Ireland.”- Barry Sheehan MIDI President
The Bursary of €5,000 will fund a design student who wishes to pursue an international educational opportunity or a design project overseas. The intent of the Bursary is to provide assistance to cover the cost of travel, housing, materials and research. Colm will use his award to enable him to present his design work at exhibitions in Stockholm and Berlin. The Institute of Designers in Ireland have established the Bursary to allow young Irish designers gain International experience of delivering innovation through design strategies. “The Frank Ryan Travel Bursary is a significant award which fills a void in terms of enabling an Irish student of design further their studies overseas."– Steve Conlon MIDI Frank Ryan Student Travel Bursary Trustee Chairman.
