Student scoops Grand Prix
Simon Rand, a graduate of the National College of Art and Design has scooped the top prize at the IDI Bank of Ireland Graduate Design Awards. Derville Murphy, Group Architect and Art Curator for Bank of Ireland, and Cameron Ross MIDI, The Institute of Designers in Ireland President, presented the award at the GDA exhibition launch in Bank of Ireland Headquaters, Baggot Street. The exhibition is open to the general public and will run until November 17th.
The jury, all highly respected figures from the design industry, was particularly impressed with the high standard of entries this year.
Cameron Ross MIDI, President of the IDI, Simon Rand, 2006 Graduate Design Awards Grand Prix Winner and Nicola Brady, Personal Segments Manager, Bank of Ireland.
“Although all four category winners were outstanding, the jury was almost unanimous in their decision to award the Grand Prix to Simon. His entry was both creative and mature in execution and I predict great success for him in the future”, commented Cameron Ros MIDI.
Derville Murphy of Bank of Ireland said “In Bank of Ireland Design and innovation touches every part of our business; we are committed to fostering good design and innovative thinking. Simon Rand of N.C.A.D has designed a stylish desk top printer that challenges our preconceived ideas that technology should look as though its operation is complex and complicated and be hidden under a desk.
