Institute of Designers in Ireland AGM in 2008
The 35th Annual General Meeting of the Institute of Designers in Ireland was held on Saturday the 5th of April 2008 in Griffith College Dublin, Dublin 8.
After an immensely successful year, Tracy Fahey passed the IDI Presidential medal onto Barry Sheehan. Barry Sheehan is Managing Director of Sharc Design and Sheehan Architects. An Architect by Profession, Barry has been involved in the design of numerous projects from graphics and multimedia through to product design and architecture.
Barry has served on the Council of the IDI since 2003. He is a member of several different design organisations and is also Vice Chairman of Design Ireland. Barry has been closely involved in DesignWeek since 2002 and is keen to increase the profile and range of the events across the island. As President Barry hopes to focus on the relevance of the IDI to Members and Society and to put in place a strategy to increase membership of the IDI.
In addition to being a practicing designer Barry is a guest lecturer and critic at several Colleges and Design courses throughout Ireland. He is a regular commentator on Design matters in the national media.

The AGM saw the appointment of a new President-Elect Damian Cranney MIDI, who is founder and managing director of Frank - a design and communications business based in Belfast’s Cathedral Quarter. A Masters graduate in Design Management, Damian has spent much of career to date bridging design practice and communications strategy. Having worked in London and then Dublin for a number of years Damian returned to his native Belfast in 2004 to establish Frank. Damian served on council as Design Management representative between 2001-03 during his tenure in Dublin and last year set up a team to bring ‘Design Week’ to Belfast. As President Elect, Damian hopes to grow the Institute’s student and professional membership in Belfast and establish Design Week as a regular event on Belfast’s cultural calendar.
